Home Remedies for Toothaches

When you have a toothache but you are not able to see a dentist, there are home remedies to help resolve pain and to numb your mouth during times of intense discomfort. Treating a toothache at home requires patience. It is not always possible to treat a toothache using a home remedy if there is a nerve exposed or a deeply-rooted problem in the mouth, including gum disease.

Using food as a toothache remedy

Certain foods, such as garlic, lime, onion and wheat grass, are known to help with relieving toothache pains. Place rock salt and a clove of garlic over the affected tooth to help ease or rid the pain entirely from the location. Chewing garlic is also beneficial to keeping teeth healthy. Chewing raw onion helps to kill germs in the mouth (after three minutes), and placing pieces of onion on a damaged tooth or section of the gums helps to alleviate the pain. Eating lime with a toothache prevents decay and gum bleeding. Wheat grass is also beneficial, as it removes toxins and bacteria from the mouth, ridding toothache pain and decay.

Alternative remedies for toothaches

Brushing teeth and using mouthwash regularly helps to fight infections and bacteria, which is a way to get relief from severe pain, although it is very temporary. Taking a sip of rum or whiskey without swallowing and swishing it around in the mouth helps to numb the nerves of the infected tooth.

Home remedies are suitable for temporary relief from toothache pain and decay. When you have a toothache, it is important to seek medical care as quickly as possible to avoid tooth loss or infection.
